Having represented more than 40 venture capital firms and dozens of technology and life sciences companies over the course of his career, Richard knows the ins and outs of private equity and venture capital transactions. He also has extensive M&A and public securities experience, including significant experience representing both issuers and underwriters in Initial Public Offerings. Richard serves as a co-chair of the firm's Technology practice group.

Richard is currently a member of the Boston Bar Association Council and a co-chair of the BBA Business Section, and is a past co-chair of the BBA’s Corporate Law Committee.

Richard has been named a Massachusetts Super Lawyer for each of the past four years.

  • Represented a global manufacturer of high-performance semiconductors for signal processing applications in its $230,000,000 public offering of Convertible Subordinated Notes.

  • Represented a leading worldwide manufacturer of instruments and process control systems for use by semiconductor capital equipment manufacturers in its $105,000,000 Initial Public Offering.

  • Represented an award winning provider of media editing equipment in approximately $200,000,000 public stock offerings including its Initial Public Offering.

  • Represented a leading provider of e-commerce software products and software-as-a service solutions in its $70,000,000 Initial Public Offering.

  • Represented underwriters in a $105,000,000 public offering of equity securities by a global manufacturer of analog and mixed signal semiconductors.

  • Represented a network equipment manufacturer in $80,000,000 of public stock offerings including its Initial Public Offering.

  • Represented a publicly traded digital, audio and video solutions company in its acquisition of a publicly traded audio editing software company.

  • Represented a leader in signal processing and innovation devices in its acquisition of a Scotland based digital signal processing tools company.

  • Represented a publicly traded U.S. based network equipment company in its acquisition by a publicly traded Dutch networking company, using novel approach to accomplish the first acquisition by merger of U.S. company by a Dutch company.

  • Represented a publicly traded regenerative medical technologies company in a joint venture with a major pharmaceuticals company.

  • Represented a privately held developer of a Web-based word processing platform in its acquisition by one of the world’s largest software companies.

  • Represented a publicly traded telecommunications switch manufacturer in its acquisition by the world’s largest supplier of network equipment.

  • Represented a publicly traded provider of software and services for managing network applications in its acquisition of a privately held network management solutions company.

Richard joined EAPD from Nutter McClennen & Fish, where he was co-chair of the firm’s emerging growth companies practice group. While at Nutter, Richard founded and was Chairman of the firm’s award winning TechnOvation Awards Program, an incubator program for emerging growth companies with proprietary technology. Prior to joining Nutter, Richard was a partner at Hale and Dorr (now WilmerHale), where he was Chairman of the firm’s Venture Capital Finance group.

Richard attended Harvard Law School as a father of three, while serving as a professional firefighter and emergency medical technician. Richard served as an executive officer of his professional firefighter’s association and helped to secure the first in the nation presumptive cancer law for firefighters. Richard and his wife Virginia live in Boston’s North End.
